FOLK FARM & FOREST
We are working with our community to steward a special piece of land in Kuitpo, South Australia and practice revegetation; ecological fine timbers; regenerating the soil, water, and landscape. The farm is on Peramangk-Kaurna Country.
The vision is for this property to be a biodiverse and climate positive farming enterprise, comprising revegetation with local native plants, a mixed-species forest for furniture grade and construction timber, carbon storage, and with our friends, rotational grazing of some areas of pasture by sheep.
What we have done so far:
-
A focus on our waterways (*more details below).
-
Planted local native species revegetation.
-
Planted two mixed woodland native and non-weedy trees including Eucalyptus, Oaks, Sheoaks, nut trees, fruit trees, and more! We are being strategic with fire wise plants to ensure long term vitality.
-
Planted paddock trees across the property.
-
Removed gorse and blackberry from across the property.
-
Collected seed (with our permits) from the adjacent bush sites - to extend those species into a larger area.
Our waterways focus:
-
Fencing off and revegetating our dams with water, riparian, and surrounding local native species.
-
Installing a Flows for the Future device (in partnership) across our property to ensure more water makes it's way down the catchment.
-
Partnering with the Nature Glenelg Trust to populate two of our dams with endangered native fish - one with Murray Hardhead and one with Yarra Pygmy Perch.
Future projects:
-
We want to continue planting hundreds of grasses, understorey plants, shrubs and trees every year around the waterways, across the property, and in our mixed woodland.
-
We would love to explore carbon and ecological offset - we will continue to do the work no matter what, but we would like to see if these programs can help us do even more!

The farm and forest has much to offer our community and the environment, but we need some help.
